translation & localization

Before moving into technical writing, I worked as a translator, and that foundation shapes how I approach every aspect of my work. Translation taught me to read text at two levels simultaneously: what it says on the surface, and what it actually means to the person receiving it.

That skill transfers directly to technical writing, where the gap between those two things is often where users get lost. It also gives me a practical understanding of what makes content localizable: sentence structures that don't collapse when moved into another language, terminology choices that translate consistently, and a sensitivity to cultural context that pure native speakers often overlook.

I have contributed to translation and localization efforts for software products, including working with translation management systems, creating and maintaining translation glossaries, and collaborating with translators to ensure accurate and culturally appropriate translations.
